The “Purposeful Play to Promote SEL in K” project seeks funding to purchase a variety of dramatic play toys for my kindergarten class at Lessenger Elementary School in The Lamphere Schools. With a budget of $750 and hopefully an additional $500 from the Lamphere Innovation Grant, I aim to provide children with opportunities for imaginative play that foster creativity, cooperation, and emotional intelligence. By enhancing our play environment, I expect to see significant improvements in students' social interactions and emotional development. Several studies report that self-regulation skills are often learned through high-quality pretend play, pointing out that play is one of the child’s main forms of activity, where he or she masters new forms of behavior, learns to interact with others, and develops imagination and self-regulation skills.
