Play in Preschool
Margaret Black Elementary
I teach the Great Start Readiness Program for at-risk four year olds at Black Elementary. My students attend preschool all day and we use a play-based curriculum. Research shows that play allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination, fine motor skills, and physical, cognitive and emotional strength. Play is important for healthy brain development. At a very early age, play teaches children how to engage and interact with the world around them. I am seeking this grant to purchase materials for my classroom that encourage play. I hope to purchase real occupational items and authentic cultural clothing for my dramatic play center; natural materials for my block area, various items for my sensory table to allow fine motor development as well as items for my discovery table. This grant will benefit 16 students this year and many more students in the future. Preschool helps children build a strong foundation for learning. Help make my students' foundation solid!
