What is Classroom Cash?

MSGCU was founded by educators — and we are committed to helping them succeed in the classroom. That’s why, every year, we offer Classroom Cash grants to teachers who are working to enhance their students’ learning experience through innovative classroom projects. Teachers can apply for a grant worth up to $750.

Who can apply for Classroom Cash?

Teachers who are within MSGCU’s field of membership are eligible to apply. Entrants must be the designated teacher/educator of the classroom that will utilize the grant. Joint applicants will not be considered.

Family members of MSGCU employees or Official Family are not eligible to apply.

Do I have to be an MSGCU member?

Non-members may apply, but must become an MSGCU member if selected as a grant winner.

When can I submit a proposal?

Grant proposals for the 2017 program will be accepted Friday, September 1 – Friday, October 6, 2017.

What can the grant money be used for?

Grant funding can be used for materials, equipment, and other resources necessary to carry out a project that would otherwise not be covered by the school's budget.

How many grants are awarded?

MSGCU annually awards nearly $45,000 in grants, so the amount awarded varies based on the quantity of applicants and the dollar amount requested. In 2016, for example, more than 60 teachers were awarded grants.

When is the voting period?

Voting for the 2017 program is scheduled to run from Monday, October 16 through Friday, October 27.

How do I vote?

Voters must register at the Classroom Cash site. Upon entering your name and email, you will be asked to complete a human verification pop-up. Once complete, you will receive a personal voting code. This code may be used up to five (5) times a day to vote for your favorite projects.

When voting, you will enter your personal voting code and the email address you registered with. You will complete a human verification pop-up to confirm your identity.

I lost my voting code! How can I get a new one?

You will need to re-register to receive a new voting code. If you register using the same email as before, the previous voting code will be overwritten.

When are winners announced?

The winners for the 2017 program are scheduled to be announced on the classroomcash.org website starting Friday, November 3. Winners will receive further communication about funding and celebrating from MSGCU.
